  • Examination - a thesis fillm by Paul Davids in 1971
Click here to view on Youtube.
This 22 minute dramatic film was the thesis project of noted producer / writer / director Paul Jeffrey Davids in 1970, when he was a 23 year old Fellowship student at the American Film Institute Center for Advanced Film Studies. It stars the late Paul Picerni, known for "The Untouchables" TV series. Paul Davids has produced and directed about a dozen feature films since then. In the genre of a "Twilight Zone" episode, this is a story about the fictional Dr. Alexander Binkleman, a scientist being honored with 6 Nobel Prizes in one year, and Binkleman shocks the world by walking way from the award ceremony after receiving a mysterious telegram. The telegram invites him to take "The Examination." The mystery of what The Examination is sustains the suspense right up to the surprising twist ending. It is based on an award-winning short story Paul Davids wrote when he was an undergraduate at Princeton University in 1969. The story was honored as the best humorous story by Tiger Magazine at Princeton.

From quirky comedy to a touching film documenting the Hispanic culture, Paul Davids' creativity knows no boundaries. He is best known for his acclaimed film, "Roswell," and his engaging "Transformers" scripts. He is a bit of a "folk hero" in the UFO world and enjoys keeping up with his multitudes of fans!

It is well noted that creative individuals have artistic gifts that span many art forms. This artist is one of them, and we take great pleasure in documenting this versatile creative spirit in an online format.

When studying the artist's early influences, it is apparent, that his fascination with the European impressionists would have a strong influence on his painting style. In addition, the risk-taking that was evident in his film endeavors has translated over into his painting career - filled with experimentation and gigantic leaps of faith.

Vincent van Gogh, his life and his work, have had - and continue to have - a powerful impact on the artist. This is evident throughout his portfolio, which is rich with swirls of pure, thick pigment, along with lush, layered skies and water.  Paul Davids' delightful film, "Starry Night" puts a fascinating spin on van Gogh's life and work.
